The cycle paths of the Rambouillet forest are magnificent greenways, all in the forest that they allow you to discover. But they are difficult for skaters because of the degraded surface in many places.
It is the longest, the best equipped, and it connects two cities served by the train.
The track starts north of Rambouillet, 3km from the station. To reach it, cross the city center via rue Chasles, rue du Général de Gaulle, rue de la motte and rue de Groussay. At the crossroads of the D936 and the D937, a track parallel to the D936 leads to the cut throat forest road which enters the forest on the right.
The cycle path is not linear, but meanders, lined with ferns, and most often under high forests of pines and oaks... Not monotonous, wild, it is punctuated by the intersections and crossroads of forest roads with large signposts. The direction signs on the track make your journey easier.
After a steep descent, and in a tunnel of greenery, you arrive at the Poteau de Hollande (Km 11,5): go down to the right to see the beautiful Etang de Hollande, ideal place for a picnic by the water!
At Km 13, it is the Carrefour du Comte de Toulouse where you can turn right on the track leading to St-Hubert (7 Km).
The end of the track is sunnier because it crosses areas of forest regeneration: seedlings, thicket and sapling. At km 17, the track ends, but the next 3 km down to Montfort-l'Amaury are car-free roads!
Here is a return to Rambouillet allowing you to make a loop on tracks and small roads. First return to the main Monfort track at the Carrefour de la Croix de Vilpert (10 km).
At this point, turn right to follow the route de la Billette (wide unmarked track). Cross the D936, follow the Route de la Vignerie opposite, at the V-shaped crossroads, go right. You find a cycle track and 1 km later, you cross the Le Mesle – Poigny-en-Forêt track.
On the right, the track to Au Mesle (6 km), with a degraded surface, is very wild, and follows a ridge with distant views. It deserves a round trip, avoiding the last 800 meters (steep descent). You will see aurochs, and maybe deer!
On the left, the track, with damaged tarmac, passes the Carrefour de Pecqueuse, and descends to Poigny-en-Forêt. Cross this village on the right, and at the exit, turn left on the C3, direction Gazeran. 2 km later, you take a track on the left that crosses the forest to the D936.
At this point, follow the narrow cycle path to the right, parallel to the road, which brings you back to the Grille aux Lapins, the start of the main track, 800 m from Rambouillet.
This return, excluding the 12 km round trip track to Au Mesle, is 29 km.
This Greenway begins south of Rambouillet, 3km from the station (from the station, go under the railway and first follow the arrows "camping": rue des Eveuses. After passing under the N10, go straight on impasse, to the left of the funeral directors, rue de la Chesnaie).
The track joins the Etang d'Or which it skirts, passes in front of the campsite, and continues in the middle of the forest, silent and shaded.
This magnificent route ends at a small road (VC 5, route de Paincourt): follow it to the left. 500 m further down, you arrive at Espace Rambouillet, an animal park where you can observe deer, roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar...
