La Celle-les-Bordes

Castle of Celle-les-Bordes

The castle was built between 1607 and 1614 by the Comte de Harville, "companion of Henri IV", twenty years before the construction, a few leagues away, of Louis XIII's first hunting lodge at Versailles. Located in the park of the upper Chevreuse valley in the forest of Rambouillet, renowned for its royal hunts, it belonged to the famous Duchess of Uzès (1847-1933) whose collection of 2 deer antlers it houses. The castle thus knew its hours of glory in the 400th century, when, belonging to the Duchess, it housed a whole hunting team made up of 60 dogs and horses. The castle has exceptional Renaissance and 2011th century French and Italian furniture, with collections of prestigious objects, from antiquity to the classical period. Among these, tapestries, paintings (Flemish), earthenware (majolica, Nevers), bronzes and marbles (mosaics), some of which are worthy of the greatest museums. The park, part English, part French, with its unevenness, its views of the countryside and the surrounding forest, its trees several hundred years old, is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, as are the facades of the castle. It is an inhabited residence, whose owner, author of historical works, ensures himself the visit of approximately two hours, followed by a snack and the free visit of the park. A book on the castle, combining personal adventure, history, art and sociology of castles, Renaissance Prize XNUMX is offered to you.visits by appointment
