Kuma Kura x Hami Hamoo concert

The diversity of African music

Kuma Kura, meaning "new language / new reason" in Dioula, is a Franco-Burkinabè project born from the encounter between Richard Monségu, artistic director of the Antiquarks Company, and Jahkasa, a Burkinabè singer and balafon player. Following a five-week creative residency in Ouagadougou in early 2024, these two collaborators offer a polyrhythmic and multilingual work blending reggae, jazz, progressive rock, and traditional West African instruments.

Driven by a resolutely decolonial approach, this creation seeks to erase cultural boundaries: the lyrics, sung in Bwamou, Mooré, Dioula, and French, celebrate friendship between peoples, denounce armed conflicts, and highlight the absurdity of the divisions imposed between France and the Sahel countries. Far from exotic clichés, Kuma Kura thus sketches a musical vision free from labels and invites the public to deconstruct the artificial barriers that still separate cultures.

Hami Hamoo
Three musicians, united by their shared passion for African music, blend their influences to create a new vibration, resolutely turned towards the old continent but from three different points of view: that of a Burkinabé singer-guitarist, that of a southern Iranian percussionist-singer and that of a saxophonist passionate about Ethiopian music and old Afro 70s sounds.

They are all three composers, therefore their creation and sharing will be based around a completely original repertoire.

The result of their collaboration is a decidedly danceable and mixed-race music, with electronic and folk accents, which blends their three energies and universes to create a new flavor with contagious energy!
