The departmental wood of Ronqueux

The wooded hillsides of the Ronqueux forest, which extends over 118 ha, overlook the Aulne valley. This steep forest offers a wide variety of natural environments. This forest is heavily frequented by large deer.

The Ronqueux forest is located 45km as the crow flies south-west of Paris in the Regional Natural Park of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse. It occupies the southern slope of the hillside and overlooks the Aulne valley. This wooded area is characterized by a vast wetland subject to conservation management to preserve certain biotopes.

On the edge of the Aulne, the wet meadow is managed by ecograzing. The forest of Ronqueux is mainly composed of chestnut trees and oaks.

121 plant species have been identified on this site. These undergrowth are as many refuges for large deer such as stags, hinds, roe deer...

In the wetland, more than 25 species of dragonflies have been recorded, 4 of which are regionally protected. This is a sign of very good habitat conservation. If you head towards the wetland, one species is easily identifiable by its light blue color, the tawny dragonfly. In this oasis of greenery, more than 38 species of birds are present, including 4 remarkable species. With a bit of luck you will come across a black woodpecker or a philomena nightingale.
