Provincial city halfway between Paris and Chartres, in the heart of the regional natural park of the upper Chevreuse valley, Rambouillet enjoys the image of a "country town", renowned for its castle and its park. It enjoys the protection of a double crown, forest and agricultural. The Rambouillet forest extends over 13 hectares and is mainly made up of oaks, beeches, chestnuts and birches, some of which are more than a century old. It provides shelter for large mammals such as deer, roe deer and wild boar.
A limestone plateau rising 180 meters above sea level provides a local water reservoir consisting of multiple springs and a chain of ponds.
