Etang La Tour is the largest of the ponds in the Rambouillet region.
The Etang de la Tour is one of the last achievements and the most upstream part of the hydraulic complex developed under Louis XIV to supply the fountains, water games and basins of the gardens of the Palace of Versailles.
This artificial body of water, now animated by outdoor sports activities, is also a site of great ecological interest. On the flora side, the tail of the pond with its silted banks, temporarily out of water, is home to some rare and endangered species such as the One-flowered Littorelle, the Leaning Bident, the Recumbent Cinquefoil, the Marsh Patience... In the The body of water also develops Callitriche pedunculata, an aquatic plant that is very rare at the regional level. As for birds, the Bouscarle de Cetti, a discreet little sparrow, frequents the groves of willows to the north of the pond. Wet wasteland with tall grasses and reedbeds are home to several other species of marsh birds such as the Great Crested Grebe or the Gray Heron. With a little luck, you will observe the Kingfisher whose metallic blue luster above the water will reveal the presence.
The northern part of the pond will integrate the new national nature reserve (RNN) of the ponds and gullies of the Sun King.
