Little Mill of the Vaux de Cernay

The FallArtGalerie immerses you in the heart of the exceptional site of
Vaux de Cernay, classified site and Natura 2000 zone, stopping place
and discovery of the inhabitants and tourists of the valley
Chevreuse.

Le Petit Moulin, the keystone of the entire site, offers
its visitors a cultural center concept. We create a space
new links and sharing around culture and
heritage through exhibitions, concerts, shows,
conferences, debates, mediations and cultural-leisure events
for all.

In partnership with the Yvelines departmental council and the
Cernay-la-Ville town hall we are building a program
cultural for summer 2024, named ON HORSE! mixing
free cultural events open to all and actions of
cultural media7on in rural areas.

Its existence, under the name of Moulin de Hotton, could be attested
in 1207. The current building, greatly transformed in 1586, was
crossed the centuries first animated by its milling activity
until the 1880s then as an inn.

It now houses a site museum which covers several aspects of the heritage of the Vaux de Cernay: the history of the mills and the activity of the miller, in connection with the abbey of the Vaux de Cernay, the history of this landscape of the Vaux of Cernay as well as that of the colony of Landscape Painters.

The Little Mill of Vaux de Cernay has obtained the “Heritage” label
of regional interest" of Ile-de-France. This label is awarded to
unprotected buildings or complexes within the Monuments
Historic sites of proven and representative heritage interest on the scale of Île-de-France.

The FallArtGalerie takes over the cultural management of the Petit
Mill and coordinates a global project aimed at raising awareness of this
natural, historical and cultural heritage. This heritage is used
as a lever of culture, social and educational ties.

This project aims to open the Petit Moulin to visits and to raise awareness
or rediscover the site by programming a series of events there
connecting the different public and associative actors and
#establishing lasting links for disabled audiences,
school audiences, visitors to the valley…

The project is based on the Petit Moulin as a built heritage
but also as an interpretation center. It relies
also on the natural site of Vaux de Cernay and the diversity of
its riches.

The Petit Moulin interpretation center exhibits the richness of
local heritage:
- the geological particularities (sandstone chaos) of the Vaux site
de Cernay which represent 1/5th of the surface area of the large site
classified in the Chevreuse Valley and offer a high level of
natural preservation.
- the history of the construction of the mills and the Abbey of
Vaux de Cernay (12th century) classified as a historic monument.
- the history of the colony of landscape painters established in
19th century in the Vaux de Cernay.
