Rambouillet

Rambouillet, royal city

It was Louis XVI who made this pretty post house a pleasure destination. He acquired the castle there in 1783 to indulge in one of his passions: hunting. He had two factories built in the park, the Queen's Dairy for Marie Antoinette, which houses bas-reliefs by Pierre Julien, and the Shell Cottage.
The former royal domain is today a presidential domain also known for its famous “hunts”.
The palace of the King of Rome was built by Louis XVI from 1784 to serve as a government hotel and transformed by Napoleon I in 1 for his son, the King of Rome.
Also worth seeing: the Espace Rambouillet and its highlight “the bellowing of the deer”, the Rambolitrain museum, a toy train model museum.
We fell in love with the Bergerie nationale, a former experimental farm of Louis XVI, dedicated to the breeding of Merino sheep and today an educational farm open to the public with its stables, its stables, its farmyard, its shop selling local products.
