History of the premises of the Tourist Office

Rambouillet Church - Rambouillet Tourist Office

The old Saint-Lubin church

Until 1872, the Saint-Lubin church stood on the square in front of the current Hotel Mercure – Relays du Château. The old presbytery in which the Tourist Office now resides was a stone's throw away, behind this old church.

The history of the old building comprises successively, as for the church, a prosperous period and another more difficult.

With the constant occupation of the castle for three centuries by the family of Angennes (1384 - 1699), then by Fleuriau d'Armenonville, the church underwent certain transformations necessitated both by the obligation to ensure chronic maintenance and by the need to take into account the progressive increase in the faithful.

The presbytery, which was at first only a reduced construction at the back of the church, in turn underwent this development.
An annuity of 1 pounds given to him by the Count of Toulouse allowed the cure of Rambouillet to become one of the richest in the diocese of Chartres.

The surface area of the irregularly shaped land corresponded to almost 52 ares, consisting of a large rural farm with orchard, vegetable garden and trellis. As currently indicated, above the front door, this building was the presbytery of the old Saint-Lubin church until 1789.

On July 16, 1796, the sale of the old structure with courtyard, garden and outbuildings took place for 144 F. It was Mr. Pillois who bought this property, but he soon had some trouble with the members of the parish.

This building dating from the XNUMXth century, which became an inn after the Revolution, was then transformed into a boarding school in the second half of the XNUMXth century. It was then successively used by several businesses.
