The Châteaux of the Chevreuse Valley

Very early involved in the history of the kingdom of France, the Chevreuse Valley invites you here to discover the castles and their parks sometimes erected on ridges, sometimes built in the bottom of valleys.

Description of the hike

1. With your back to the station, turn left to the crossroads where you continue straight on the marked GR Div cycle path (white and red) which runs along the road towards Fondation de Coubertin / Piscine.

2. You cross a street on the right: continue the cycle path (Coubertin farm on the left) then 175m further on take the path on your right marked GR Div. which extends into the street.

3. Leave a car park on your left and cross the Yvette by a first bridge, then just before the 2nd bridge, turn left on the chemin des Petits ponts, still following the GR Div markings: put your feet down. Then straight.

4. Arrived at the level of the wash house of Mandar (“river aux Tanneurs” terminal) cross the canal to the main road that you cross. Turn right then the 1st street on the left, rue Lalande (pedestrian). Follow the GR (white and red).

5. Go up the Place des Halles then to the Rue de Versailles on the left, then the 1st street on the right by the Ruelle des Larrys. Join the Jean Racine path and go up to the castle by the GR.

6. At the parking lot of the Château de la Madeleine, on the left do not leave this road which soon progresses through the undergrowth.

7. At the end of the forest you arrive at Clos St-Lambert which you pass for a few meters to take the path to the left through fields just after a hedge of cedars.

8. At the D 13 turn left, then take the next right through the entrance to the hamlet of Trotigny, then right again through the street to continue on the grassy path that extends this street.

9. Leaving the path on the right then cut to D 91 and continue straight on towards Le Mesnil-Sevin.

10. You follow the rue de la Roncerie and at the intersection turn left into the Allée de la Butte Ronde, then the dirt path which descends. Downhill: put your feet on the ground or ride slowly. At the next junction located in the big bend, continue on the left path enclosed in a ravine.

11. At the bottom of the path, continue straight ahead passing the small stream that cuts the path, then continue to the D 58 where you will turn left, then at the bottom of the crossing turn right towards Cernay-la -City by the D 91.

12. On the way up, turn left via rue du Moulin d'Aulne, opposite the Dampierre exit sign.

13. Once you have passed rue du Couvent on your right, take the 1st path on your left located in a large bend to the right, following the PNR markings (blue and white). Pass the barrier and continue straight on uphill to the “Terre de Malvoisine” marker.

14. Arrived at the terminal turn left towards the water tower in the direction of the Haras de Malvoisine which you walk along to come out on the D 906 Then at the D 906 on the left then 1st on the right towards Choisel. Follow the PNR markup.

15. At the crossroads in the hamlet of La Ferté, turn right onto the Grange aux Moines road, then continue on this road for 2 km across fields.

16. At the intersection at the Fillolière farm, turn left towards Château de Breteuil.

17. Facing the castle, take the path to the right in front of the reception building (watch out for the descent). At the bottom of the descent. Arrived at a crossroads continue straight: cross a bridge then go up the path with the steps.

18. Leaving the path go up impasse des Tilleuls then left by rue de l'Abreuvoir and left on route des Sables.

19. On the bend, leave the main track to take the dead end road to the barrier, which you cross, then straight ahead to a fork (signposted forest plot 33). Take the path on the right (between plots 33 and 34) following the blue markings then straight ahead.

20. Arrived at the crossroads with the stony road, leave the blue markings which continue opposite by a path which descends and turn right on the stony road to the barrier.

21. After the barrier straight ahead where you continue to walk along the park of Méridon castle then take the main road (asphalt) to the road following the GR (white and red).

22. Cross the road and take the straight path in front of you marked GR, leaving a car park on your right. Go through the barrier then straight ahead.
