To carry out effective mushroom picking, equip yourself!
🧥 Choose warm and strong clothes, resistant to branches and brambles, they do not have to be waterproof but it is preferable that they do not let in dew or water falling from branches.
🥾 A good pair of walking shoes or boots are strongly recommended, choose them solid but still flexible and waterproof enough not to get wet with the grass full of dew.
🧺 You will put your harvest in a wicker or shallow wooden basket and if possible with a lid, plastic bags are to be avoided. You can partition your basket if you have delicate species fearing being crushed by larger specimens.
🔪 Take a special mushroom knife, it is indeed studied for a perfect cut of the foot and moreover has a brush allowing you to clean your harvest on the spot.
📷 Informed amateurs will bring a camera, allowing them to not neglect any detail concerning the species and the place of their harvest.
📖 A notebook will be useful for you to note all the details that the camera will not be able to capture in the field: nature and consistency of the soil, smell, humidity...
Get your crop checked: Many edible mushrooms have poisonous look-alikes. So to avoid unnecessary risks, a mycologist can tell you if your mushrooms can be eaten or not.
Keep some of the mushrooms consumed: this gesture can save your life in the event of poisoning, it will allow a specialist to direct you towards the appropriate treatment.
